I’m a soda fanatic. I absolutely love the Japanese Pepsi flavors and I’ve tried azuki (red bean) and shiso flavors (I’ve also always wanted to try cucumber). This year, however, isn’t one I can really get behind: Pepsi Dry. This soda is supposed to be 50% less sweet than regular Pepsi. I’m not a fan of bitter tasting anything, so I would probably only try a sip of this.
Pepsi Dry was released yesterday in Japan and retails for 140 yen. If you have a chance to try it, please let me know how it is!

Me, sad after almost being hit by a car in Kyoto when I ran across the street to get shiso Pepsi from a vending machine.
I love that Coke and Pepsi release new flavors in Japan and I really wish they would do it here in America. Cherry, vanilla and lime flavored sodas are okay, but what about something completely out of the ordinary?! I think people would try some of these flavors and be really pleasantly impressed. The azuki and shiso flavored Pepsis were surprisingly delicious and refreshing… especially the shiso. Ever since i had it 2 years ago I’ve had the occasional craving.
I’m also a big fan of melon soda (the fountain kind at McDonald’s and karaoke places, not so much in the bottle). I try and drink as much of it as I can when I’m in Japan. If they brought that to the States to compliment orange and grape Fanta, I think they’d be onto something!
I’ve also tried Green Tea Coke, pictured here. I was really hoping it would taste magical but it ended up tasting disgusting. I was very disappointed. On my list of other sodas to try that I’ll probably hate? Curry ramune. I’ll let you all know how that tastes… maybe even in a video showing my anticipated disgust.
Do you like soda? What are some of your favorite flavors? Have you had wacky Japanese kinds before? Let me know in the comments!
