New York City’s Empire State Building joined several other noteworthy landmarks around the world in showing support for Japan. Last night the iconic building was illuminated in red and white until early morning. Other participating buildings included the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, Menara KL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and N Seoul Tower in South Korea.
This is the third time the Empire State Building has reflected Japan’s official colors. The first time was in 2009 after Japan’s World Baseball Classic Victory. The second time was to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of Japan’s first diplomatic mission to New York City. I wish this third time was just as celebratory, but Japan was in good company around the world last night.
